Soft Glam Makeup | Tutorial | Spring 2024 Trend

Hey Beauty Lovers,

Did you see the eclipse Monday? 🌒
As eclipse fever calms down we find ourselves getting into the full swing of spring.
And what better way to embrace the season than with another spring 2024 makeup trend.
So, today's tutorial is of Soft Glam Makeup.

You can catch my video tutorial here

What is Soft Glam Makeup?

The easiest way to understand Soft Glam makeup is to know that it is the antithesis of Glam Makeup.
Glam makeup is very bold and dramatic; strong eyeshadow and dark liner, false lashes, sharp contour, intense lips.
Soft Glam is the exact opposite.

And Spring 2024 has its own twist on soft glam showing us how to go extra pretty pink for a flush and embracing facial features like freckles and moles.

What Do I Need to Get a Soft Glam Makeup Look?

It's not too hard to achieve a Soft Glam makeup look.
And it definitely takes less time than a full-on glam one.

For foundation it's best to go with a light to medium coverage with a natural finish.
A tinted moisturizer would work great as well.

Eyes are better off with light browns or neutral shadows.
Even a soft sweep of a shimmery beige shadow all over lids and brows would work.

For eyeliner, ditch the heavy black and go for a rich or chocolate brown.
It will still define the eyes, but with a less intense effect.

Lashes, where full glam utilizes false lashes, soft glam is all about natural lashes with a good dose of volumizing mascara.
A mascara that adds some curl is also a plus.

Face makeup should be seamlessly blended.
Contour should be light and soft, no harsh lines.
A highlighter with a bit of a shimmer or pearl finish is perfect for soft glam.
A big part spring 2024's take on soft glam is pretty pink blush. Still make sure to blend it well.

Lips should be a neutral pink or nude shade, leave the brights and reds for glam-glam.

A fun part of 2024's take on soft glam is playing up natural features like freckles and moles.
Don't have any? No problem, check out my tutorial for a quick way to create some.

How Can I Get a Soft Glam Makeup Look?

I've got a tutorial for you right here below and you can also watch my video tutorial here

1. Brown Shadows & Blending Brushes: Start by running a matte soft brown shadow through the crease of the eye. Use a blending brush to soften all the edges.
Next, apply a medium brown shimmer shadow all over your lid.
Dust a matte beige eyeshadow along your brow bone.
Blend the seams of all of the shadows until there are no harsh edges and the shadows blend seamlessly into one another.

2. Brown & Cream Liners: Next take a chocolate brown kohl liner and run it along your top lash line. Create just the tiniest wing, nothing intense.
Blend it out with a blending brush until you get just a soft diffused line.
With a cream colored eyeliner pencil trace along your lower water line.

3. Mascara + Concealer + Contour: Use a fanning mascara on your top and bottom lashes to create a natural, wide-eyed effect.
Clean up under the eyes with a concealer and make sure to blend it into the rest of your face makeup so everything melds together nicely.
Take a matte light brown contour shade and dust it under your cheek bones. Blend it out until you are left with a light shadow of shade.

4. Highlighter & Blush: Dust a shimmery rose gold highlighter onto the tops of your cheek bones, on your forehead, and down the bridge of your nose.
Swirl a generous amount of pink blush onto the apples of your cheeks and blend with the rest of your face makeup.

5. Add Freckles & Lipstick: You can purchase a liner specifically designed to create freckles or by a stamp liquid liner to create different shaped 'moles'. But I just used a deep bronze eyeliner pencil and dotted it around my nose, softening the dots by tapping them with my fingertip.
I did the same thing to create moles.
Finally, take a nude lipstick and apply it to your lips, softening with your fingertip as needed.

When we put all these steps together we will get...

Our finished Soft Glam makeup look!
You can see the contrast between soft glam and "regular" glam.
Soft glam is more subtle and a bit more wearable for everyday.

The eyes are still a major player in soft glam but with more browns and neutrals for the eyeshadows and eyeliners it gives a softer, more feminine effect.
And blending is your best friend when creating a soft diffused look like this one.

The extra pink blush really gives this look a pretty, almost ethereal feel.
Playing up (or creating) freckles and moles on the face really embraces the natural beauty of the skin and gives a playful vibe to this soft glam trend.

Sephora Favorites | Fresh Face Kit | Review & Tutorial (with Swatches)

Hey Makeup Lovers!

Today I have a review and tutorial for you of some products that are PERFECT for springtime makeup looks!
And these products conveniently come in a kit from a popular beauty shop.
It is Sephora Favorites Fresh Face Makeup Kit. It comes with pretty much everything you need to create a natural, beautiful fresh spring face.

The products come in a pouch that is compostable (sustainability counts). And it retails for about $45 at Sephora. It comes with three full size products and the mini sizes of the other five are pretty generous as well.

This kit comes with eight different beauty products that combined can give you an entire makeup look.
So, the question is: are these products worth the cost? And if they are how do you use them?
Read on to find the answers and find out which product I absolutely disliked in this kit.

REVIEW

Danessa Myricks Mini Beauty Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder mini in Universal

Brand: Danessa Myricks Beauty
Size: Mini
Name of Shade: Universal
Color: Transparent
Finish: Natural
Formula: Balm
Smudges/Streaks/Runs: No/No/No
Waxy/Flakey: No/No
Skin Type It Works Best For: All

What it is: A balm that can prime and/or set your makeup. You can use it before you apply makeup or after.

Pros: It is an excellent primer for eyes and skin. It creates such a lovely canvas for eyeshadow; shadow glides on like a dream over this balm.
It also works for setting or touch ups around the face. It absorbs oil but isn’t drying, it also adds moisture to dry skin. Really unique!

Cons: I haven’t noticed any drawbacks. It’s everything I never knew I wanted from a primer.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5 out of 5)

Would I Repurchase: Yes

Final thoughts: A lovely priming and setting balm that adds to your skin what it is missing, whether that is moisturizing or mattifying.

tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes™ 4-in-1 Mascara in Black

Brand: Tarte Cosmetics
Product: Mascara
Size: Full
Name of Shade: Black
Color: Black
Waterproof: No
Formula: Volume/Curling
Wand Shape: Straight
Lasts for: 12+ Hours
Smudges/Flakes: No/No

Pros:
This mascara gives super volume to lashes! It lengthens and separates lashes for a super wide-eyed look. The shorter bristles catch every last lash and gives a curling effect as well. It doesn’t streak or flake and there is little to no clumping. It also lasts all day with no need for reapplying.

Cons: It’s not waterproof, but it doesn't claim to be.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭑ (4 out of 5)

Would I Repurchase: Yes

Final Thoughts:
A great multitasking mascara (that is full size!) You can wear this mascara with all of your eye makeup or totally on its own, either way you will have a gorgeous eye look.

HUDA BEAUTY Cream Kohl Eye Pencil in Very Brown

Brand: HUDA Beauty
Product: Eyeliner

Name of Shade: Very Brown
Color: Chocolate
Finish: Matte
Formula: Kohl, Pencil
Waterproof: Yes
Smudges/Streaks/Runs: No/No/No
Lasts for: 10+ Hours

Pros: This gorgeous eyeliner glides on eyes with the fluidity of a gel with all the precision of a pencil. It has a matte finish that lasts forever, on the lash line and in the water line. It doesn’t smudge (unless you want it to for a smoky eye) or run in water or humidity. Plus, it’s a full size!

Cons: I honestly don’t see any cons.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5 out of 5)

Would I Repurchase: Yes

Final Thoughts: This is a truly incredible eyeliner that gives you so much to work with. From the easy to apply formula to the long lasting wear, it is an ideal eyeliner.

Drunk Elephant Mini D-Bronzi™ Bronzing Drops with Peptides mini in Universal Bronze

BrandDrunk Elephant
Product: Bronzer/Skin Serum
Size: Mini
Name of Shade: Universal Bronze
Color: Bronze Brown
Finish: Natural
Formula: Liquid
Streaks/Runs: No/No
Blendable: Yes
Lasts for: 6 Hours

What it is: Really more of a skin serum with the appearance of makeup. It has amazing skin benefits while giving a bronzed finish. You can add a few drops to your moisturizer or serum and apply it to your face for gorgeous sun-kissed skin.

Pros: There are so many good-for-your-skin ingredients in this little bottle I could go on for days. It is also in a beautiful liquid bronze shade. I used it as a light contour shade along my cheek bones. It melted into my skin seamlessly and left just a hint of color. The color lasted for about six hours, but my skin has never looked better since I used this serum.

Cons: Color doesn’t last very long.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭑ (4 out of 5)

Would I Repurchase: Probably

Final Thoughts:
An unbelievably great serum for skin's texture and health that truly delivers. The bronze shade gives you options for application.

Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme Lip Shaper Plumping Lip Liner in Puffy Nude

Brand: Too Faced
Product: Lip Liner/ Plumper
Size: Full Size
Name of Shade: Puffy Nude
Color: Rose Nude
Finish: Matte
Formula: Cream
Smudges/Drying: No/Yes
Lasts for: See Cons

Pros: A nice neutral rose shade.

Cons: This is literally the first Too Faced product that I do not like.
I really dislike this lip liner. It burned my lip line. Not like the mild tingling that lip plumpers do sometimes. This was so intense that after a few minutes I had to remove it. It was incredibly uncomfortable to wear.

Star Rating: ⭐⭑⭑⭑⭑ (1 out of 5)

Would I Repurchase: No

Final Thoughts:
Not a fan at all. I love Too Faced, but this liner is painful. The shade is pretty, but the formula needs work. There are other lip plumpers out there that give the same fuller effect without burning through your lip line.

MAKEUP BY MARIO Mini MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serum mini in Pink Glow

Brand: MAKEUP BY MARIO
Product: Lip Balm
Size: Mini
Name of Shade: Pink Glow
Color: Pale Pink
Finish: Sheer
Smudges/Drying: No/No
Last for: Approximately 6 Hours

Pros: This balm is quite lovely. It has a mild peppermint flavor that tingles and gives a plumping effect to lips. It has the palest pink tint to it which is rather pretty. It is also super moisturizing and glides so smoothly across lips. The moisturizing effects last several hours.

Cons: Very light shade that fades quickly.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭑ (4 out of 5)

Would I Repurchase: Probably

Final Thoughts: An awesome lip balm that gives you tons of moisture with a bit of plumping as well.

Iconic London Mini Prep Set Glow Hydrating Spray mini in Original

Brand: Iconic London
Size: Mini
Name of Shade: Original
Color: Champagne
Finish: Natural
Formula: Liquid
Smudges/Streaks/Runs: No/No/No
Skin Type It Works Best For: Combination to Dry

What it is: A face spray that you can use to prep your face for makeup, set your makeup, and use it to refresh your makeup throughout the day. Give it a good shake (like a spray paint can) to mix the liquid ingredients with the glowing ingredient.

Pros: No matter which step in your makeup routine you use this spray (maybe all of the them!) it gives your skin such a pretty glow. The light champagne shade doesn't give too much color to the face or look overly shimmery. It gives a lovely, radiant shine.
Plus, it contains so many great ingredients for your skin, like vitamin C.

Cons: Keep it to a couple of applications per makeup look, as too many throughout the day seemed to create a little bit of build up on the face and looked like it was sinking into pores.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭑ (4 out of 5)

Would I Repurchase: Yes

Final thoughts: A great multi-purpose face spray that gives you a radiant glow and has excellent skin care benefits along with it. Plus, it has a lovely scent.

Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Mini Soft Pinch Liquid Blush mini in Happy

Brand: Rare Beauty
Product: Blush
Size: Mini
Name of Shade: Happy
Color: Punch Pink
Finish: Matte
Formula: Liquid
Smudges/Streaks/Runs: No/No/No
Blendable: Yes
Last for: 8+ Hours

Pros: This pretty liquid blush is in the perfect shade for a soft flush of color.
It blends easily and dries to a comfortable natural matte finish.
The color is buildable so you can get a light pink or a more intense shade.
I loved the shade so much that I even used it as a lip color! It also works as a long lasting matte lipstick.

Cons: None that I have noticed.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5 out of 5)

Would I Repurchase: Yes

Final Thoughts: A long-lasting liquid blush in a gorgeous shade that can double as a lipstick in a pinch.

Tutorial

You can watch my video tutorial here

1. Brown Eyeliner from Huda Beauty: After prepping skin and lids with the Danessa Myricks blurring balm, run the Huda Beauty eyeliner across top lash line to get a thin line and winged it out a tiny bit at the end.
Then, use the same liner in the lower water line of eyes and along the lower lash line.

2. Mascara from Tarte: Next I used the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara to coat top and bottom lashes. Put on a few coats while wiggling the mascara wand back and forth to catch all the little lashes, the shorter bristles really help with that.

3. Bronzing Drops & Lip Balm: Take just a drop of the Drunk Elephant bronzing drops and dot it along under your cheek bones and then blend it in with your fingertips.
Next use the lip serum from Makeup by Mario and apply that all over your lips.

4. Liquid Blush, More Blurring Balm & Setting Spray: I wanted a little more color to my lips so I used the Rare Beauty blush as a matte lipstick.
The applicator worked perfect for lining and filling in lips.
Then, I go back in with some of the blurring balm from Danessa Myricks around the nose and eyes just to set them a bit.
Finally, use the glow spray from Iconic London to not only set but give a pretty illuminated highlight to the face. Shake the bottle well to combine all the great ingredients and then spritz as many times as you like.

And we will have...

Our finished Sephora Favorites Fresh Face Kit makeup look!
The products in this kit give you everything you need to create lovely spring makeup looks; there are so many possibilities!

The products really lend themselves to creating fresh face looks. You could use one or two products for a very natural effect or use almost all of them (like I did) to get a bit more color.

The brown liner and the bronzing drops in similar colors give a nice cohesiveness to the look.
Using the liquid blush on the cheeks and lips would also add to this connection.

Colored Mascara | 3 Tutorials | Spring 2024 Trend

 Hey Beauties!

Hope you're ready for spring!
Although, it dropped to 30 degrees here in New York the spring equinox is technically today.
But, no matter how cold it is outside, I have another hot spring makeup trend for you!

This one is already big and is relatively easy to create.
Colored Mascara!
You can find a whole rainbow of colored mascaras ranging from drugstore friendly prices to super high end brands.

Regardless of the shade or brand you choose, there are so many fun ways use colored mascaras.
To prove my point, I have three (3) different tutorials for you using colored mascaras!
I used two colored mascaras from Maybelline.
So let's jump right into our first one!

You can see my video tutorials here

1. Easy Blue Mascara Tutorial

This one is truly simple and fun to create.
In just a couple of steps you have trending eyes for spring!

1. Lots of Blue Mascara: Swipe on several coats of blue mascara to top and bottom lashes for a strong pop of blue.

2. Add Pink Blush & Lipstick: For a pretty contrast, dust a pink blush onto the apples of your cheeks.
Then apply a shimmery pink lipstick to lips.

Put these steps together and we get...

An easy, pretty blue mascara look!
Using just the one shade of colored mascara lets the eyes make a statement and become the main focal point.

If you lashes are naturally a lighter shade than mine, you might not need to add as many coats of mascara to achieve a blue shade (use your discretion).
Blue mascara is universally flattering; whether you have hazel eyes (like me), blue, brown, or green this is an excellent shade of mascara.

Products I Used:

L'Oréal: True Match Super Blendable Blush Baby Blossom
Sonia Kashuk: Synthetic Domed Multipurpose Brush No. 16
Milani: Color Statement Lipstick in Pink Frost

2. Monochromatic Burgundy Makeup Tutorial

Another fun option with any colored mascara is going for a monochromatic look.

You can see the video of this tutorial here

1. Burgundy & Beige Eyeshadow: Start by covering lids with a matte burgundy eyeshadow. Use a blending brush to work the shadow gently into the crease of your eye.
Then take a matte beige shadow and run it though the brow bone, just for a subtle highlight.

2. Burgundy Mascara: Load a burgundy mascara onto to your top and bottom lashes.
If your lashes are darker like mine, it may take several coats to see a saturated burgundy shade.

3. Concealer. More Burgundy Eyeshadow & Burgundy Lipstick: Take a concealer in a shade that matches your skin tone and smooth it under your eyes and around cheeks to clean up any shadow fallout.
Use more of the burgundy eyeshadow and blend it onto the apples of your cheeks with your fingertips.
Finally, add a burgundy lipstick to lips. I didn't have the shade I wanted so I had to mix two and ended up topping lips with more burgundy eyeshadow. It worked.

Add all these together and we will get...

Our finished Burgundy Monochromatic makeup tutorial!
As you can see, the burgundy mascara is a little less vivid on my dark lashes than the blue was.
But when the light hits it, you can really see the tint.

Going full burgundy really kept the mascara in play and helped show it off more.
You could create a monochromatic makeup look with any colored mascara; just keep the other products the same color as your mascara.

Products I Used:

Too Faced: Eyeshadow in Mamma Mia!
Laura Makeup Labs: Queen Blending Brush
Luxie Beauty: Rose Gold Medium Angled Shading Eye Brush 207
Too Faced: Eyeshadow in Gelato-Ohh!
Coastal Scents: Ipsy Pearl Medium Shadow Brush
Maybelline: Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara in Burgundy Haze
Tarte: Double Duty Beauty™ Shape Tape™ Concealer in N12 Fair Neutral
Hikari Cosmetics: Lipstick in Cabernet
NYX: Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Sandstorm

3. Double Colored Mascara Tutorial

For my third colored mascara tutorial, I use two shades and add a bit more color.

You can watch this tutorial here

1. Lilac Eyeshadow + Highlighter: Take a shimmery eyeshadow stick and color all over your lids to get a nice opaque shade.
Use an eyeshadow brush to blend out the shade and drag it slightly into the crease.
Then take a rose gold highlighter and dust it across your brow bone.

2. Blue Mascara: Swipe a few coats of blue mascara on your TOP lashes only.

3. Burgundy Mascara: Next use the burgundy mascara and coat your lower lashes for some extra dimension and color.

4. Contour & Highlighter + Blush & Lipstick: On an angled brush take a light brown contour color and run it under your cheek bones.
Take the rose gold highlighter we used for the brows bone, and dust it on the tops of your cheek bones.
Use a light pink blush and lightly blend it onto the apples of your cheeks.
To finish the look blend a coral red lipstick onto your lips.

And finally we will have...

Our finished double colored mascara makeup look!
Even if your lashes are darker, the subtle tints of color in the colored mascaras add so much depth and dimension to the whole makeup look.

The blue and silver shimmer in the lilac eyeshadow stand out more thanks to the blue mascara.
The burgundy mascara pairs well with the lipstick and warms up the face.

Products I Used:

Maybelline: Color Tattoo Longwear Multi-Use Eye Shadow Stix in I am Fearless
Slmissglam: N15 Eyeshadow Brush
Phase Zero Make Up: Powder Highlighter in Rose Gold
Luna Magic: Always on Point Eyeshadow Brush
Maybelline: Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara in Blue Mist
Maybelline: Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara in Burgundy Haze
NYX: Highlight & Contour Pro Palette
Beaute Basics: C405 Contour Blush Brush
Phase Zero Make Up: Powder Highlighter in Rose Gold
F.A.R.A.H: Tapered Blending Brush 35E
e.l.f.: Putty Blush in Bora Bora
Ciaté London: Wonderwand Lipstick in Sunday
