Day-to-Night Makeup Look

In my latest video I talk about how I take my neutral everyday work/school makeup look to a more intense night look.

My first piece of advice is to keep an "emergency" makeup kit on you at all times.
Keep it in your purse, the glove compartment of your car, your desk drawer, backpack, etc.
Many times in the past I have been caught off makeup guard by an event that came up after school or work that I was not prepared for.
This lead to frantic runs to Target or Sephora and impulse buying products, some that I already had at home.
So keeping some inexpensive favs stashed will save you time and money.

The other scenario that I have found myself in is knowing about an event before hand but not having time to run home to reapply my makeup after work or school.
But have no fear I have some suggestions on how to go from day to night makeup seamlessly.

Step 1: Get a Makeup Bag

You can get a makeup bag in nearly every store on the planet.
So find one that is the right size for your needs, and that you think is cute!
Then the night before (or that morning) load it up the makeup you plan to wear for evening out.

Step 2: Smokey Eye = BFF

Left to Right: NYX Ipsy Eyeshadow Trio (NYX Love in Rio Eyeshadow Palettes are very similar), Clinique Lulu Dk Palette (Try Clinique All About Shadow Quad in Teddy Bear), Urban Decay Naked Smokey Palette, Ulta Complete Eye Palette in Indie

I like to go with more neutral colors for the day because it gives me more options to play with later.
In my video I went with the Urban Decay palette.

My base day makeup was Combust on the brow bone, Radar on the lid, and Whiskey in the crease.
Also, Almay TLC Foundation, MAC Black Tied Eyeshadow, Clinique High Impact mascara and Hikari Shimmer Bronzer in Flush.

At the end of a long day eyeliner and eyeshadow can streak and run, but we can work with that!
As I show, at apparently 4:50, in my video, I blend and smudge any left overs.

Then I add a fresh line of eyeliner and blend.
Then I think I used Password or Radar on the lid.
Smolder in the crease.
Blend, blend, blend!
Reline lower waterline, run Smolder along lower lash line.
Mascara: Roller Lash from Benefit.

Step 3: Reapply Contour/Highlighter/Blush

Fix up any face colors that have faded or streaked.
I used:
e.l.f. Studio Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder in St. Lucia
Too Faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter in Blinded by the Light

Step 4: Clean up Oil/Streaks/Smears

Clean up any fallout from shadow, streaks from oil or perspiration, and so on.
I used:
Maybelline Fit Me concealer in Fair.
MAC Studio Fix Powder in NW10.
If you have oily or combination skin like I do the powder foundation is a great way to freshen up your look and give your skin a nice matte finish.
If you have dry skin you may want to opt for a BB cream or tinted moisturizer instead.

Step 5: Set Makeup

Once you put all this work into your look you want it to stay put for the rest of the evening.
There are some great makeup setting spays out there:
Urban Decay All Nighter Spray
Too Faced Hangerover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray
NYX Makeup Setting Spray (in Matte or Dewy)

And your all set to go!

  1. We all know how much we love to do makeups on a regular basis. Having a day to evening makeup lesson is important to know, how to do makeup with minimum products. Lina will be better for this, as she provides personal expert advice for people of all ages and experience levels in London studio. Moreover, she won’t give season’s ‘look’ only; she’ll help to create a unique style and a simple bespoke routine that will be just yours, every day and Forever.
