Ipsy August 2018 | Glam Bag Review

If you follow me on Instagram you know the reason there was no post last week was because my neighbor's tree fell onto my beautiful car, which resulted in it being totaled. Here's a picture:

So, I did not have time to record an 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' makeup look, as I was dealing with my own unfortunate event. However, my Ipsy bag also came that day and brightened my spirits a little bit.

Quick overview of Ipsy for those who are unfamiliar:
Ipsy is a monthly subscription service that for $10 per month (plus tax, free shipping in the U.S.) gives you five beauty samples (often a full size product) in a cute makeup bag.
Every month has a different theme and different bag.
You take a beauty quiz when you sign up to let them know your preferences (skin type and tone, hair color and type, makeup style, etc.)
And as you receive different products you can rate them so future bags will have more of the products you like.
And as rate and review, you earn points towards free products!

You can watch my video review here:

Here are the products I received in August:

1. PIXI BY PETRA: Fresh Face Blush in Beach Rose

This is a lovely, blendable blush. It gives a perfectly natural flush and can also be used as a contour shade. It crumbles a little if you are a too aggressive with the brush, but it glides on the face like a dream.

2. CIATÉ LONDON: Glow-To Highlighter in Moondust

This shimmery, champagne colored highlighter is beautiful! It blends nicely on top of the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, etc. Leaves a nice 'lit from within' glow. I definitely plan to buy a full sized one of this little guy.

3. SLMISSGLAM: Rose Gold Blusher Blush

This brush isn't just pretty, with its glitter and gems. It is soft, fluffy, and totally versatile! Not only is it great for blush, but it is the perfect shape for contouring the hollows of the cheeks, or highlighting the cheekbones.

4. THEBALM COSMETICS: Foiled Again Eyeshadow in Locked Up

This silver shimmery shade is as smooth as butter. It's finish truly gives a foil look, with a super pretty shine. Lasts for about 8 without creasing (without a primer).

5. HEY HONEY: Take Away The Drama Youth Boosting Honey and Copper Peel-Off Mask

Usually, I'm not a fan of face products, so when I get them I give them away to friends or family.
But I really love the brand Hey Honey!
Their Take It Off exfoliating mask is one of my favorites and this one is right up there with it.
My skin was a mess after my cold and this mask came just in time to draw out all the nasty little impurities that were left over.

And here are a couple looks with some of the products in this bag (plus a few other favorites)

Esme | The Hostile Hospital | A Series of Unfortunate Events | Makeup

Dear Reader,

You have undoubtedly clicked on this post by mistake, so please click on another post. Nobody in their right mind would read this particular post on makeup inspired by A Series of Unfortunate Events on purpose.
It is my solemn and sacred occupation to research, re-create, and write down each detail, but you may prefer to do some other solemn and sacred thing, such as reading another post instead.

(Paraphrased from Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Event Book the Seventh: The Vile Village)

This week's dreadful makeup is of Esme Squalor while she impersonated a nurse at Heimlich Hospital in The Hostile Hospital Parts 1 & 2.
Esme declares herself as "Nurse Cassandra Ursula Terrific Elliandra-" and Olaf cuts her off before she can finish her name.
Esme has two different looks in the Hostile Hospital: first as a nurse, and the second has a Cruella de Vil on steroids kind of vibe.
Both disguises have similar eye makeup but different lip colors.

What Will You Need?

1. Gray-Taupe & Black Shadows: The gray for all over the lid and a matte black for tracing out the crease. Similar to Esme's Officer Luciana disguise here
2. Concealer & a Small Brush: If you're like me you will over saturate the crease with black shadow and need to thin it out. A small brush dipped in concealer works perfect.
3. Black Liquid Liner & a White Pencil Liner: A quick swipe of black liner on the top lash line and then run a white pencil liner in lower water line to make the eyes look wider.
4. Black Shadow, Lengthening Mascara & Lashes: Trace the black shadow along the lower lash line, apply mascara to top and bottom lashes, and add full, wispy lashes to give Esme's intense vibe.
5. Highlight Brow Bone & Inner Corners: With a bright white shadow or loose pigment apply a generous amount to the brow bone and inner corners of the eyes.
6. Contour, Highlight & Blush: I feel like this is a redundant entry from my recent posts and that it may be more helpful to just watch it in the video here
7. Lavender & Gray Lipstick: For Esme's first look I mixed a Lavender lip color with a deep gray lip color. For her second look, the gray lipstick worked on its own.

Esme's first lipstick look as the psycho nurse.
