Hey Beauties!

Today I’m kicking off a series of Fall 2023 Makeup Trends (Sorry, diehard summer graspers).
I am starting with one of the eye styles for fall: color blocked eyes.

Call it eye candy, call it color blocking, “call it what you want” (closet Swiftie); vibrant, electric eyeshadow or eyeliner, one shade on lids or top lash line and a completely different shade on the lower lash line encapsulates this fall trend.

Candy colored eyes were visibly noticeable at Fashion Week and expected to be hugely popular this fall.

The good part: this look is incredibly easy to achieve.

The best part: I have created two unique color blocked eye tutorials just for you so you will be all set for fall!

So, read on for some fun colors and tutorials 😎

You can watch my tutorials on YouTube here

Eyeshadow or Eyeliner?

A variety of colored eyeliner pencils

It’s totally up to you!
That’s the great part about makeup: it’s whatever makes you feel happy and beautiful.

Traditionally, eyeshadow will cover more of your eyelid surface and will be more blendable.
Eyeliner creates more of a thin line of color for a more concentrated but less intense effect.

The bottom line is with either eyeshadow or eyeliner you can create the color blocked eye look you want.

Which Colors Should I Choose?

Three colorful eyeshadow palettes

Oh the possibilities.

Another area where you can let your imagine run wild is choosing which shades to pair.
You could pick your two favorite colors, show your team spirit with the colors of your favorite sports team, or use different shades of the same color.
The possibilities are truly endless.

The colors I used were purple (on top lid) and sky blue (lower lash line) in my first tutorial.
And in my second tutorial I use a blue liner (top lash line) and a green liner (bottom lash line).

Other color combinations I love: teal and magenta, bright yellow and watermelon pink, or purple and hot pink.

How do I Create this Fall Eye Trend?

I’m so glad you asked because I have two tutorials right below to show you how to achieve color blocked eyes for fall!

Purple & Sky Blue Candy Eyeshadow

1. Purple Eyeshadow & a Rounded Brush:
Take an eggplant purple eyeshadow on a round fluffy brush and work it onto the eyelid.
Keep blending and building the color through the crease of the eye with a mild windshield wiper-like motion.

2. Blue Eyeshadow and a Small Shadow Brush:
On a small flat brush take a matte sky blue eyeshadow and trace it across your lower lash line meeting it with the purple shadow on the outer corner of the eye.

3. Off White Shadow & Mascara:
Use an off white pearly eyeshadow and blend it onto the brow bones to give the rest of the shadows a nice frame.
To bring together the color blocked eye look take a black mascara and swipe it on the top and bottom lashes.

4. Concealer, Highlighter, & Blush:
Since the eyes are so full on keep the rest of the face more neutral.
Use a concealer to clean up any fallout that may have come from the bright eyeshadows.
Then use a highlighter and just lightly dust the high points of the face; tops of cheeks, bridge of nose.
Finish off the face with a rosy blush gently blended onto the apples of the cheeks.

5. Nude Shimmer Lipgloss:
Complete the look with a nude-peach shimmer gloss swiped across the lips.

And finally we have...

You could keep the purple eyeshadow more concentrated to the lid for a more subtle look or you could take it up further into the brow bone for a more intense effect.

These shades lasted all day for me, but if you're worried about smudging or drifting you could prep the eyes with an eyeshadow primer and set them with a setting spray.

Keeping the rest of the face more simple not only will allow the color blocked shadow to stand out but keeps the whole face from looking too "busy" with competing colors.

(Thank you to the Clue fans who got that)🔍

A little too full on color for you?
No worries, I also have a more wearable everyday color blocked look for you.

Blue & Green Color Blocked Eyeliner Tutorial

1. Peachy-Brown Base Shadow & Blue Eyeliner:
Create a nice canvas to showcase your liner by sweeping a Peach Brown eyeshadow all over the eye from lash line to brow bone.
Next, use a blue pencil eyeliner and trace it across your top lash line.
Start with short, thin strokes and gradually build to your desired color and thickness. Wing it out just a bit at the outer corners of the eyes.
I like to use the side of the pencil because it gives me more control (See video).

2. Green Eyeliner Pencil:
Run a green pencil liner along your lower lash line and lower water line until you get a nice intense green shade.
Take the green liner just to where it meets the blue liner at the outer corner of the eye.

3. Mascara, Concealer & Contour:
Finish off the eyes with a volumizing mascara on the top and bottom lashes to enhance the liners even more.
Use a quick swipe of concealer under the eyes and anywhere else you may have gotten excess color.
Give the face extra umph by running a contour shade through the hollows of the cheeks, between the cheek & jaw bone.

4. Highlighter, Blush, & Lipstick for the Win:
Dust a champagne shimmer highlighter on the cheek bones and swirl a pink matte blush onto the apples of the cheeks.
Complete the look with a nude-mauve lipstick and smudge it onto the lips for a more worn-in look (also a fall trend, but we'll get to that later).

Which gives us...

Our second color blocked eye look!

A bit more wearable than the first color blocked look.
You could keep it even simpler by stopping after the blue liner across the top lash line.
Sort of easy your way into the color block trend.

You could also swap the colors: use the green on the top lash liner and blue on the bottom.
There's really no wrong way to do this look.
