What Exactly is Bold or Dramatic Makeup?

It pretty much describes itself; makeup that is intense, vibrant, and draws attention.
It's reminiscent of the makeup that was worn in the Roarin' '20s when parties were over-the-top and inhibitions were few.

I don't find myself attending such events in my current era, but that doesn't mean I don't want my makeup to be dramatic and strong.

With dramatic makeup you can choose to keep the eyes intense and opt for a more neutral lip color, or you can go bold with both eyes and lips (like I do in the tutorial below).

Should I Use Colorful Eyeshadow or Stick to Classic Black?

It's really more of a personal preference, but there are advantages to both.

Black Eyeshadow, offers that classic dramatic effect. It can look more sophisticated and polished.
It also lends itself to go with any lip or face colors you choose.

Colorful Eyeshadow, gives you greater creativity and really allows you to express your individuality.
You can choose complimenting or contrasting colors that lets your personality shine.
Depending on the colors you choose, it may limit the shades you want to use for lips and face.

How do I Create a Bold Party Makeup Look?

I have a step-by-step tutorial just for you so you can achieve the dramatic makeup look of your dreams.
It's easier than you think, it just takes a little extra patience.

You can watch my video tutorial here

1. Navy Blue Eyeshadow & Blend: First take a navy blue eyeshadow on a crease brush and buff it through the crease of the eye, blending and building color until you get a soft navy shade.
Use a blending brush to diffuse the navy shadow and soften the line.

2. Shimmery Blue Eyeshadow: Next take an admiral blue shimmer shadow and pack that onto your eyelids. Build a really strong saturated shade, taking it just into the crease.
Add a bit more navy blue to the crease.
Then go back in with your blending brush to blend the seams of the two blue shades.

3. Charcoal Eyeshadow and more Blending: Take a shimmer charcoal shadow on a small brush and apply it to the outer 'V' of the eye, creating a bit of a wing.
Again, use your blending brush to soften the charcoal shade and blend it with the blue shadows.

4. Shimmer Shadow, Liquid Liner & Concealer: Dust an off-white shimmer eyeshadow onto the brow bone for a nice highlight and contrast.
Take a black liquid liner and trace it across the top lash line. It doesn't need to be too intense, we're going to add false lashes soon.
Use a bit of concealer along the outer corners of the eyes to get a stronger wing shape to our charcoal shadow.

5. Pencil Liner, More Charcoal Shadow, Mascara & Lashes: Trace a black pencil liner along the lower water line.
Then on an eyeliner brush, run more of the charcoal shade along the lower lash line of the eye, about 3/4 of the way across.
Add a generous amount of volumizing mascara to lashes.
Apply false lashes to lash line and gently add a little extra liquid liner to merge the false lash line to your own.

6. Champagne Shimmer, More Concealer, Bronzer: On a pencil brush take a shimmery champagne shadow and dust it along inner corners of the eyes.
Use more concealer under the eyes to clean up any fall out from the shadows.
Then take a matte brown contour shade and run it under your cheek bones, using your fingertips to blend the shade.

7. Liquid Highlighter + Shimmer Blush: Dot a liquid highlighter across the tops of your cheek bones and use your fingertips to blend and smooth it up towards your temples.
Dust a shimmery pink blush onto the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards.

8. Bright Red Lip Liner & Lipstick: Trace a red lip liner around your lip line to prep lips for your lipstick.
Fill in lips with a bright red lipstick.

Finally we have...

Our finished Bold-Dramatic Party Makeup Look!
A few more steps then one of my typical makeup tutorials, but tons of fun to create.

Most of the time I would probably opt for a more neutral lip to balance the bold eyes, but I figured go big or go home, it's a party!

Probably not a look you would were everyday (or would you?), but it is the perfect look for a night out.
The dark eyeshadow draws attention to the eyes and the bright lipstick really makes the rest of the makeup pop.
You will not be overshadowed by any lights or colors.
