Icy Makeup | Tutorial for Winter

Hey Beautiful People!

December is rolling right along and it's typical here in the north to see a lot of snowy days and nights.
Oddly, so far here in New York it hasn't snowed much yet.
Maybe a day of flakes and two days later it's 50 degrees.

Regardless, my next makeup tutorial is based off of the snowy nights that we normally see a lot of this time of year where I live.

You can check out my fun video tutorial here

What is Icy or Snowy Makeup?

It's pretty much what you would imagine: makeup that has a frosty or icy finish to it.
Also, for a snowy look, anything that would give your skin the appearance of being outside in the cold for a good duration of time.

Eyeshadows with a frost finish that give an iced over appearance.

Eyeliners in white or light blues have the most icy effect (MAC even has a white mascara right now!)

Highlighters with pearl & frost finishes applied heavily to the high points of the face.

Blush in frosty pink dusted intensely on the cheek bones and tip of the nose to give a flushed, playing in the snow kind of look.

Lipstick with an iridescent frost finish is perfect for a winter look (it also gives 2000s vibes).

Icy Makeup? Snowy Night Makeup?

You really are just making this stuff up aren't you?

Yep.
Hey, how do you think we got latte makeup and smoky eyeshadow?
Someone made it up.
I took the parts of the winter season that I find most beautiful; a snowy night's sky, and put it into an eyeshadow look with other supportive products.

Makeup is supposed to be fun and expressive.
There are no rules.πŸ’‹

How can I get Icy/Snowy Makeup?

I just happen to have a step-by-step tutorial for you because I like you so much 😏

You can watch my video tutorial here

1. Navy Blue Eyeshadow + Finger Tips & Brushes: Start with a navy blue eyeshadow (preferably a metallic or shimmer finished one) and use your finger to saturate the lid of your eye with color.
Use a small shading brush to work the navy shade into the crease of your eye.
Next take a blending brush and run it through the shadow in the crease just to soften any harsh edges.
This is our night sky.

2. Add Snow (White Pigment): Next add a dusting of snow.
Take a shimmery white loose pigment and tap it on top of the navy on the lid.
If you add too much pigment (snow storm!), no worries, just press some more of the navy shadow on the lid.

3. White Liquid Eyeliner & Crayon Liner: With a white liquid liner pen run it all the way across the top lash line and wing it out a bit at the outer corners.
There will be some white liner that gets on the back of your lashes. That is okay, it will actually enhance our mascara in a little bit.
With a frosty white crayon liner or multi-stick line the lower water and lash lines.

4. More Crayon Liner, Mascara & Concealer: Take more of the white crayon liner and trace it onto the brow bone. Blend out with your finger tip for a pearly appearance.
Apply volumizing mascara generously to the top lashes.
Use a concealer that matches your skin tone to clean up any fallout under the eyes from the shadows. Take it down to the cheeks and into the corner of the nose as well for a seamless finish.

5. Contour, Blush + Lipstick: For just a light contour use a pearly bronze cream in a stick and just run it under your cheek bones and blend it out with fingertips.
Dust a frost pink powder blush onto the apples of your cheeks and blend upward.
Really pack on the color because we want that just-came-inside winter flush.
For the same reason blend more of the blush onto the tip of your nose.
Use an iridescent magenta lip color to cover your lips.
Take the frosty white crayon from before and top your lips for extra frost.

And finally you will have...

A finished Icy Makeup Look! Featuring Winter Night Eyes ❄

All about the icy and frosty finishes.
From eyes to lips it's a pretty consistent winter wonderland theme!

You can see how the excess white liquid liner on the lashes creates a cool contrast with the black mascara.
Not intentional, but it ended up working better than I had expected.
